- He is based on Mary Poppins from the movie of the same name.
- Larry even makes a remark which is close to one featured in Mary Poppins ("A spoon full of salt makes the medicine go down").
- Larry Poppins was designed as a joke referencing Mary Poppins. Originally, the joke was to use "Gary Potter" (and for Gary to be voiced by Daniel Radcliffe), however this was changed because according to The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part director Mike Mitchell, they "didn’t want to upset any Harry Potter fans".
