The Kragle is a weapon that Lord Business needs to freeze the LEGO world. Only the Piece of Resistance can seal it. Not much is known about the Kragle's past other than it being an ancient relic protected by Vitruvius until Lord Business stole it. It remained in his possession for 8 1/2 years until one day, he decided to use it to freeze the LEGO World on a dastardly day called Taco Tuesday, in reference to the name of the machine firing it, the Tentacle Arm Kragle Outside Sprayer, or TAKOS, for short, with the S being silent. The K was changed to a C and the S removed so people would be less suspicious of it. Only once Lord Business started spraying it on the citizens of Bricksburg did they really know what was going on. He decided to do this so he could once and for all stop the Master Builders, a class of people who build something using the bricks around them, and without instructions. He had been persecuting Master Builders for at least 8 1/2 years, but a group of survivors went into hiding into realms that protected them, such as Cloud Cuckoo Land. They also built hidden tunnels to said realms to survive. The Master Builders had been searching for the Piece of Resistance, the one thing that can stop the Kragle, for years. It was finally found by Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary, law-abiding citizen of Bricksburg who was unrecognized by those around him up until that point, which actually saved his life. When Emmet touched the piece, he saw images and fell asleep. He later woke up in the interrogation room of the Super Secret Police, with its chief Bad Cop, who interrogated him about the piece. Unsatisfied with the way he was acting normal, saying it was "the perfect cover," he eventually decides to melt him. However, he is rescued by Wyldstyle, a student of Vitruvius, once she learns that he has the piece. They ran from the cops and eventually into a tunnel that led to the Old West, where Vitruvius was hiding. However, Wyldstyle quickly finds out that Emmet has no idea what the Special, Master Builders, or any of that are, and assumes that he is not the Special.
